How many nights in a row can you legally sleep on land you own? Deed in your name, taxes paid, nearest neighbor a mile off. In one Florida county the answer is five — and that's the gentle one.

Five laws have made living off the grid illegal across most of the country, and not one of them uses the words "off-grid." They say camping. Energy storage. Household use only. Wildland-urban interface. Nitrogen. Every one of them is published, public, and sitting in a document almost nobody reads before they sign for the land.

This video walks through all five in the order they find you: the camping clock on your own property, the cap on how much electricity you're allowed to store in your own home, the leash on the water under your land, the fire map that decides whether your cabin can exist, and the one law that reaches houses that were paid off decades ago. For each one: where it's already in force, why it keeps spreading county by county without anyone voting on it, the one thing to check about your own county before you buy, and the exemption written into its own text.
