Very astute observation. I've read many books from the days before mass media and "entertainers and theater people" were considered trashy con-artists. Few people remember it now, but in those days the customers brought rotten fruit, vegetables and eggs to pelt the stage performers with if they felt they were being ripped off for their entertainment money spent.
