what i want to know is why no one is working on making the 'nuclear waste' into something usefull...
we use trash/garbage to make gas and burn it to make energy, even using plastic waste and turning it back into oil or fuel...

Yeah pile it all into a huge rock pit and let it go into a nuclear burn.... Good thinking. The real story is that during fission reactions, certain elements and isotopes evolve in the fusion and reactions, and these are called Neutron Absorbers.... and a) they are intensely radioactive and b) they are very very very expensive to extract from the fissile materials, and there is lots of legal and political and other issues, to not clean up the contaminated uranium and plutonium and a range of other fissile materials, so they just store and bury it..... See cleaning up and reforming OLD motor oil, means mixing it with solvent like light naptha (Shellight or Lighter Fluid) running that through centripital and then <1 micron filters, chemically removing the acids, alkali's, recombining all the shorn molecules into long chain hydrocarbons again, adding all the detergents, dispersants, friction and viscosity modifiers etc... THAT is relatively easy...... The nuclear stuff.... like there are a number of isotopes that are so similar atomically, that one is a very good and useful element, add or subtract a proton or neutron - and you have a hard core neutron absorber that with enough of them, they just gradually start to shut down the fission process. The solution though, it seems is to feed all the waste into fast breeder reactors... There is a whole heap of information, that while I have a fair general grasp of the issues, it would sort of take a lot of research and analysis to create a small book on all that is involved, in the fissile materials and the fission poisons, and the assorted methods to reform or remove them. It's like a railway train, at a train station.... then we go to a train line and train stations, and then we go to a railway network, and then many many trains, and then schedules for times of the day and days of the week and times of the year.... It's understandable, if you make yourself learn it....
