It's not due to incompetence. It's deliberate subversion. That's why all cultural characters get character assasinated before they get killed off and replaced. They need to know when to put a series to sleep. I was in 6th or 7th grade when the original Star Wars came out. That was phenomenal at that time (mid-1970's). I remember the original Saturday Night Live show (1975); another one that should've been put to sleep decades ago. They continue to flog a dead horse, squeeze out every last drop of blood, and still keep on when the carca$$ stinks to high heaven.
