You say in school they never taught you about the War of 1812. I imagine it would be safe to assume they didn't teach you about the Communist Revolution in Russia of 1917. If that's the case, I HIGHLY recommend the following videos. They don't include anything specifically about the Soviet Revolution itself, there's plenty of resources for that elsewhere. If the man has something useful to say on the topic of neo-Marxism, we owe it to ourselves to listen and take what value from it we can.
Once you've watched all of those, you'll have a much clearer picture of why what is happening today is happening the way it is. You will see how much you've been lied to or - at the very least - how much the truth has been hidden from you.

There's the rage, then comes the I-don't-give-a-fuck-about-anything-anymore nihilism, then there will be some depression and/or confusion usually associated with, "What next?
