In February 2026, Trump called Herzog "disgraceful for not giving it" and said "he should be ashamed of himself" and that "the people of Israel should really shame him", prompting Herzog's office and various Israeli politicians to push back, with Herzog's office stating "Israel is a sovereign state governed by the rule of law. Contrary to the impression created by President Trump's remarks, President Herzog has not yet made any decision on this matter".
