It could be a genuinely good reason. It could be because she is incompetent with money, lying and lazy - and cannot budget for shit. It could be that she is sponging off you and getting involved has the potential to drag you into her shit and drama with her.
Give the loan on the basis of a written contract, video'd, that you get something of hers as a guarantor, that if she does not repay the $500, within the specified loan period, that you claim ownership of her property left at your place, and you can sell it to repay the debt.
i.e. Sign up a sale and transfer of HER car into your name, with stamp duty etc., covered, and the car is parked into your back yard, locked up, and the sale becomes effective on the final day of the loan period.
