Reports from the ground in Bamako suggest that the situation in Mali’s capital remains stable following a weekend of violence that led to the killing of the country’s defense minister.

Despite claims in Western media that jihadist groups have placed the city under blockade, local reporting describes heavy traffic, people moving through the streets, and no visible signs of panic or anxiety.

The report also challenges the interpretation of jihadist statements, arguing that claims of a blockade are exaggerated and do not reflect the current situation in Bamako.

In the latest episode of India, Russia and the World, strategic affairs expert Zorawar Daulet Singh notes NATO’s hesitation to back the US in the Iran war, saying that if Washington had succeeded early, “they would have all joined like vultures into that conflict.” He also adds that Russia, India, China, and even Iran are emerging as key players in a new Eurasian balance that could act as stabilising forces shaping the next century.
