The US’ behavior vis-à-vis other nations was never particularly subtle, reciprocal, or elegant but, given the country’s preoccupation with domestic politics, many Americans could afford to ignore it. That is, until the arrival of Donald Trump. His swagger, while substantively not much different from what is typically American, now seems too much, even for the US Supreme Court, which ruled last week that most of his tariffs are illegal. What does it mean for the US’ standing in the world and its relations with other nations?
