Wildfires ravage forests in Russia’s south-west

A forest fire swept through a gorge in Russia's Karachay-Cherkessia Republic on Thursday. A thick column of smoke rose above a mountain ridge, as the fire spread across 15 hectares. Over 200 firefighters and 54 pieces of equipment were deployed to battled the flames. The fire was stopped from threatening the nearby villages, and locals were evacuated.
