Cyberpunk has a lot of cops. Officers and law are vital parts of sci-fi dystopian futures, and the world as imagined by William Gibson and several other creators sees a world where tech gets better but life gets worse.
But what's really fascinating is comparing how cyberpunk is in the west AND the east. Why is Japanese cyberpunk, from anime like Ghost in the Shell and Akira to horror like Tetsuo the Iron Man so drastically different in so many ways to Western cyberpunk...but in one key way, so similar?
