I go ask LOTS of questions about all sorts of things to all sorts of people... including what motor and gear oils are good for minus 70*C.....
You can hear him talking about how hard the gear changes are getting - the colder it gets - because "Geman" typical temperatures are WAY warmer than Bum Fuck Siberia -50*C temperatures.....
So the colder the gear box gets, the thicker the oil gets, the less it splashes and pumps around and the less all the gears and bearings get lubricated... and so on and so forth.... Untill the gear oil is like molassas from the freezer....
It's also why they tend to leave their engines running all the time.... Soon as the engine gets cold enough, all the oil in it will lock the engine solid like glue... So unless they want to spend ages thawing out their engines for regular daily driving... they leave them running....
Very cold gear oil = Very Bad and Gear Box damage.
