‘We can’t go on like this’ | Migrants exceed number of local population on Lampedusa

Yet more migrants have arrived on the Italian island of Lampedusa just after the departure of the Italian PM and the head of the European Commission, who visited the once-popular holiday hotspot to witness the unfolding crisis. Over 8,000 migrants arrived in the last few days – a number that exceeds the actual local population.
