See I have never seen how well modern ships can steer around corners, because I have NEVER seen them steer really fucking hard, around river bends....

You see - watch carefully, it takes a little leading into the corner, and for the rudder to turn hard, watch the rate of turn, and at around 45 seconds, the HARD turn is fully underway.....

These ships are incredible.....

First one:

Container Ship KMTC TOKYO is currently located in the South China (reported 7 hours, 25 minutes ago)

What kind of ship is this?

https://www.marinetraffic.com/....en/ais/details/ships

KMTC TOKYO (IMO: 9848871) is a Container Ship and is sailing under the flag of Panama.

Her length overall (LOA) is 172.07 meters ( 560 feet long ) and her width is 27.43 meters.

It has a draft of 10 meters, weighs 22,300 tons.

And judging by the turn rate, it can do a full hard 360* degree turn in under a minute.

It never occurred to me that ships not only have to go long distances, mostly in sort of straight lines, they also have to manouver in ports, harbours, esturies, through currents and between reefs, islands etc., they also have to manouver in very tight places like ports....

Coming into dock, is exactly the same as taxis pulling into a taxi rank, or busses at a terminus, cars in a car park or trucks at warehouse loading bays....

Except these are just "giant cars or trucks", and they have to be able to steer in really hard turns, in really tight places.....

They are fucking HUGE and yet, they can turn on a dime....

They have the rear rudder and bow thrusters...

They are incredible.

So much cleverness - everywhere.
