When I wore the uniform, nigh every comment made about military life had to be filtered thru PA or some other official channel. Social media put the nix on that practice because it became impossible to review the sheer volume of comments made online. It became "you are subject to consequences if you X" by the time I retired in 2010. But women--the overwhelming majority of social media users--blithely ignored that because they knew they're all immune to consequences, which applies to a lot more than posting commentary. It's not exclusively women's doing, but the general refusal to hold women accountable for their actions is what's leading the "Tiktok rebellion" described here.
