Ukraine jails socialist activist for 15 years as supporters denounce ‘political frame-up’

Ukrainian socialist activist Bogdan Syrotiuk has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for high treason, with the court also ordering the confiscation of his property.

Johannes Stern, editor-in-chief of the German-language edition of the World Socialist Web Site, argues that the prosecution presented no evidence that Syrotiuk passed military secrets to Russia. He describes the case as a political frame-up driven by Syrotiuk’s anti-war writings and socialist views.
