Trophies in the rubble – Russian troops capture Avdeevka

From the air, the city of Avdeevka is nearly unrecognizable. The brutal fighting that has engulfed it in recent months has ended, but the scars left in the wake of the Ukrainian defenders’ collapse is plain to see. High rise buildings half exposed to the elements. Infrastructure is barely intact. Where entire neighborhoods once stood, now little more than rubble and regret remains.

However, down on the ground, there is some cause for celebration at least. A Ukrainian tank captured, seemingly entirely intact, perhaps abandoned during the chaotic Ukrainian retreat. It will be inspected and returned to service by its new owners, but only after all the Nazi symbols have been removed.
