pajeet or mexican driver?
I like trains and I understand them and I used to build / repair / work on them.
But notice how when the train just punches into the trailer, how the front of the truck - the cabin and all, just whips around and smashes into the side of the train...
Fuck....
And derailments... especially BIG LONG trains travelling at their top speed - maybe 120 Kmh... Oh god....
It's the size of the bits, and the size of the whole train and the INERTIA....

train crashes
BUT this is why perhaps not neurotically, but with a really healthy dose of FEAR and LOATHING, and participating in the BIG team that repairs them after hitting trucks on level crossing etc... Where the fitter might replace a few brake hoses and some old guy with a bean tin and a wire handle, goes out there with some paint and a paint brush, and dabs a bit of paint over the scrape marks on the front....
Or derailments - I would not want to be within a block of them....

Down the bottom of the page - for whoever it was I had a discussion about turbos about.

ABOVE: In 2001, X 38 underwent a major rebuild. The main feature being the addition of a turbocharger to the 16 cylinder 645 engine which increased the horsepower from 2,000 to 3,000. The horsepower increase required an enlargement of the radiator. The cab was also heavily modified to allow for one man operation. The rebuild has been an outstanding success and more X's are to be modified. X 38 has since been re-classed and renumbered to XR 550 (photo courtesy Greg Dixon)
