The original DARPA net was set up for scientists, researchers, engineers and technicians to share data, ideas and postulations not for backyard gossip, propaganda or mindless drivel. There is no real privacy on the net and yet people use it for financial and personal data exchange. All this should be kept as close to one's vest, as it were, as possible. People see convenience and validation as being more important than security and peach of mind.
