I suppose the school of economics are encouraging volume and short term gains. Flood the market with cheap and poor quality stuff. Traditionally men were taught to take good care of tools and pay only for quality. That rule doesn't work anymore. Natural resources are finite and more waste will fill the land and sea floor.
In regards to the throw away products, I learned about the concept earlier in the year. It actually has a term- Planned Obsolescence. Parts for pretty much anything we consume are intentionally made to break down in a few months time so that they can overcharge us for not only said cheap parts but possibly for the labor it takes to install them as well depending on the product.
My family completely buys into it. They'll scoff me for buying something of higher quality that lasts far longer than something they buy at a dollar store or some shit. I'm a believer of quality products and getting what you paid for. If something is of a better build and will last me far longer then I'm fine paying more for it- I'm not going to pay pennies for something that's just going to break down a month or two after I buy it. It's a waste of time and money.
