There’s a growing number of Christian women asking the same question: “Why won’t he propose?”

The uncomfortable truth is this: the men Christian women chase often aren’t proposing — not because they’re anti-marriage, but because they’re selecting for something very different than women think.

This isn’t bitterness. It’s not anti-woman. And it’s not a call for women to shrink themselves. It’s an honest look at a disconnect inside modern church dating culture.

In many churches, women are affirmed for professional success, independence, leadership visibility, education, confidence, and public influence. None of those things are wrong. But the traits that make someone impressive in public life are not automatically the same traits that make someone desirable for lifelong marriage.

Most high-agency Christian men with options are not filtering for degrees, income, or platform presence. They are filtering for permanence, peace, loyalty, respect, alignment, and long-term stability. When those priorities don’t match what women are optimizing for, proposals stall.

The result? Frustration. Hesitation. Delayed engagements. Increasing loneliness on both sides.

The real question isn’t just “Why won’t he propose?” It’s whether Christian women are optimizing for admiration — or for marriage selection.
