Thailand may have become more expensive, but in some ways, it deserves to be. Thai people are still willing to help when you have a problem. I look at the country as a whole, and honestly, even in 2026, it remains a great destination if you know where to go.

Pattaya is still one of the best places in terms of value for money. Bangkok has become expensive, but you can still find affordable and enjoyable places if you know where to look.

I don’t feel that tourists are being scammed in Thailand. Overall, it is still cheaper than Europe or the United States. I’ve never had any major regrets about Thailand—except for not discovering the country earlier.

The rise in prices, social media, and dating apps is changing things, though. Social media and dating apps are really affecting the dating scene and even the freelance scene there. There is also the issue of “simps” constantly showering women with money, and because of that, some of the same problems we see in the West are starting to appear in Thailand.

But there are still plenty of women there who have genuine long-term relationship potential.

Yep adaptation happens everywhere. I feel sad to see whats slowly happening to Thailand because it means so much to me. I know in time it will become unrecognizable. I can't go back now as it would spoil my memory from way back.

I started going to Thailand in late 2,000's and kept going back every 2-3 years. Your so right. I stayed there for 6 months on 3k. Local shops, tuk tuks, everyone spoke English, Full moon parties, it wasn't modern, but it had hell of charm. Last time I went it was just as expensive as back home. All the local shops are gone, high rises everywhere, everyone glued to their phones. And the prices tripled. oh yeah don't forget the cops are only paid until 5pm in Cambodia xD

Ha ha you lived the dream when it was fun as hell. Cambodia was nice but everything had a price and I mean everything but that was the magic......not the same in Thailand now, greed has taken over a ruined everything atleast we saw it at its best

@SoloMan Zone: I wish I had been able to visit Thailand back then. When I watch documentaries or movies about Thailand from that era, you can really feel that it was a very different place, even better in many ways. Still, I’m glad I got to visit for the first time in 2024. Even in 2026, Thailand is still a wonderful country. Yes, prices have gone up, and people have changed. I noticed the difference myself between the younger generation and the older generation, just like we see in Europe. Everyone is glued to their phones now. But the real Thailand is still there. You’re just less likely to find it in places like Bangkok, Pattaya, or Phuket. You really have to get off the beaten track to discover the hidden gems: genuine people, beautiful places, peaceful landscapes, and authentic experiences. Sometimes you find them unexpectedly, and to me, those moments are priceless.
