Swedish PM accidentally almost says Israel has ‘right to genocide’
Sweden’s prime minister is facing both ridicule and questioning after appearing to argue for Israel’s ‘right to genocide’ before hastily correcting himself. Ulf Kristersson was speaking in Gothenburg on Tuesday when the topic came round to the Gaza war. ‘Sweden and the EU stand united in that Israel has a right to geno...self-defense,'’ he flustered, to a mixture of shock and laughter. Some audience members began to ask him, ‘Does Israel have the right to commit genocide?’ Others, meanwhile, were no doubt wondering if this was something of a Freudian slip.
Kristersson’s speech had already sparked protests from pro-Palestine demonstrators, who booed the PM and chanted ‘shame on you.’ Kristersson would later denounce the protesters as ‘disrespectful.’
