Good call on the "relative motion" - of the life buoy in the water - and the boats "non existent" forward speed.
Basically the boat was stationary - and so aside from SOME spot light and normal visual / close range binocular viewing, if the kid has gone missing between jumping into the water and getting to a ladder on the side or rear of the boat, and trying to get out, he's GONE - he has been eaten by the shark/s.... So doing some bullshit HUGE search pattern - was a fucking waste of time.
He went missing from a stationary boat, and the search area, would have been the size of an average back yard.... nothing more.

One thing I've noticed about my local area is women love to cause men to have fights as if we are still cavemen. The problem is both men can get arrested and then you are a debt slave/prison slave. We aren't free human beings so women and reproduction are a fool's pursuit anyways..
Shark bait... Well, this Generation is special: They're the last generation born with freedom who got to enjoy it until they reached adulthood... OH, sharks by in large hunt at night. and noise attracts them. My guess it was a hammerhead or a bull shark.
