Poland marks anniversary of Warsaw Uprising

Thousands of people took to the streets of Poland’s capital on Tuesday to commemorate the 79th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. The city became a haze of white and red as people lit flares and waved Polish flags during their march.

The attempted liberation of Warsaw from German occupation in 1944 ultimately cost thousands of lives; however, the city was eventually liberated by Soviet troops the following year.
