(Freeman) Dyson - he worked on this project, and the project DOES work, but they developed the techology to make small nukes, in large volumes, comparatively easily and cheaply. This was in and around the era of atomic bombers, atomic scram jets and atomic rocket engines.Then came the international treaty, banning atomic bomb atmospheric tests. The problem with this concept is getting approval from military organizations to launch essentially nukes. i only see some form of ion drive modified to produce more thrust at same rate a factor of 10 thrust with same rate and life span would make that enough for fast travel within the solar system.
