Nikki Haley claims US has ‘never been a racist country’

While many debate on whether the USA is a ‘systemically’ racist country today, Republican presidential failed-candidate-to-be Nikki Haley has taken the debate to strange and baffling new places. According to her, the US has ‘never been a racist country.’ Speaking with Fox News, Haley responded with the talking point that it would be impossible to win the nomination as a ‘woman of color’ (for those that aren’t aware, she was born to Indian parents), she started strong, with the ‘grew up in a small rural town’ offensive, but quickly veered into the surreal. ‘We’re not a racist country, Brian. We’ve never been a racist country.’

While people began reeling off all the racist things the US government has done in the past, such as Japanese internment camps, lynchings, Jim Crow and affirmative action, her campaign team, that she still has for some reason, were frantically trying to frame these comments in a way that didn’t sound completely mental. Again. Yes, Haley had made this baffling point before, at the Republican National Convention, although it didn’t cause a stir there because no one was really listening.

Anyway, back to the campaign spin. ‘America has always had racism, but America has never been a racist country,’ her campaign spokesman clarified. Oh, good, that clears that up, then. Expect to see this brilliant piece of masterful rhetoric to return in ‘I may have lost the candidacy, but I am not a losing candidate.’
