Mens Rights Edmonton members at the Edmonton 2014 Slutwalk. We were there with a sign that read: "Rape Culture is a myth", and we handed out pamphlets that mentioned RAIN, the leading authority on rape and incest in the United States, no longer considers it constructive to frame the issue of rape in the context of a "rape culture".
We were very well received by some slut walkers who did not actually self identify as feminists. Its a safe bet to assume that many of these slut walkers knew nothing about what the slut walk was actually about, and were probably only taking part at the event because it was something to do on a hot summer weekend. Most of these individuals had literally never heard the anti-feminist, mens rights message before, and once we were able to present that side to them, most were surprisingly supportive of it. Some even questioned their participation in events like these that perpetuate bigoted feminist ideological perspectives, such as the aforementioned "rape culture".
Of course, there were also feminists who were very pissed off by our injection of truth into their glorified pity party, and they made their frustrations known by acting rude, stealing pamphlets, and attempting (unsuccessfully) to block our sigh so that it could not be read. One woman who is a member of MR-E and came out to help us, had her purse stolen by a slut walker when her back was turned. Predictably, the police did nothing about this, and even made excuses for the perpetrator so that they did not have to arrest her.
All in all though, it's safe to say we had many meaningful conversations with slut walkers, casual observers, and passers by. If the goal was to make even a few people start to question the violent and bigoted ideology of feminism, more than a little bit, then this day was a major success.
