A stunning analysis of federal employment data says women have captured virtually all net US job growth since President Trump returned to office, while employment among men has slightly declined. According to the figures cited in the report, payroll employment among women rose by roughly 765,000 between December 2024 and August 2026, while the corresponding figure for men fell by around 6,000.
In August alone, women reportedly accounted for 158,000 of the economy’s 162,000 net payroll additions. The enormous divide appears to be driven largely by where growth is occurring: private education and health services, a workforce that is about 77 percent female, added more than one million jobs during a period when total employment increased by substantially less.
Meanwhile, several industries that traditionally employ more men have struggled or contracted. Matt Walsh argued that men are being deliberately pushed out of the workforce, but the underlying data does not establish intentional discrimination or a coordinated effort to exclude male workers.
What it does show is a weak and highly concentrated labor market in which the few sectors producing sustained growth overwhelmingly employ women. That raises serious questions about whether the economy is creating enough viable opportunities for men, what happens to communities when male employment stagnates, and whether policymakers are paying sufficient attention to the widening divide.
