Did the devil went down to Georgia?

Yes, President James Monroe sent General Andrew Jackson to the Georgia-Florida border region in late 1817. [1, 2]
Monroe's administration dispatched Jackson to defend American settlers in Georgia against attacks by the Seminole Indians and runaway slaves crossing over from Spanish-held Florida. [1]
However, Jackson significantly exceeded his orders. Instead of just securing the Georgia border, he used the situation to invade Spanish Florida entirely in 1818 in an unauthorized campaign that became known as the First Seminole War. During this expedition, Jackson captured Spanish forts and executed British citizens. [1, 2]
While the invasion caused a massive international incident and an internal dispute within Monroe's cabinet, it ultimately pressured Spain into ceding Florida to the United States. You can read more about this turning point in American expansion on the Miller Center's James Monroe Biography. [1, 2] ;)
