Italian coast guard rescues over 50 migrants near Lampedusa Island

The Italian Coast Guard rescued total of 59 people in two separate incidents on Wednesday. In the first operation, 22 people were saved south of the island of Lampedusa, and a few hours later rescuers helped another 37 people on board of a small wooden boat. The coast guard teams have also recovered nine bodies in the rough waters of the central Mediterranean Sea.
