Indonesia needs to protect ecnonomy from dependence on investments — Benny Batara

Morgan Stanley Capital International has halted stock trades in its accounts on the Indonesian stock exchange and is considering downgrading the nation from an 'emerging' to a 'frontier' market.

Authorities at the stock exchange held online talks with Morgan Stanley over issues like ownership transparency, low liquidity, and coordinated trading.

The company wants capital market reforms and has warned about a possible shift in market status if no changes are seen by this May.

We spoke with founder of Bennix investor group Benny Batara, he expressed concerns about the nation's growing dependence on Western capital.
