Well basic AM radios have sort of highly directional ferrite (sintered iron powder bar) antennas. Think similar too the black old cheap magnets...

It's the directional issue, and the range of receptivity.

I use my cheap shit AM clock radio as a desk top lightening detector - turned down to the LOWEST frequency - in a clean area, between stations...

I want to greatly improve the sensitivity, and range, and to make the reception omnidirectional.

Hence the tutorial for an effective omnidirectional AM radio antenna.
