There is zero reason to believe that Vladimir Putin wants to end the war in Ukraine on any terms short of Russian victory.
If the world lets him get his way, he won't stop with Ukraine.

Pompeo's thoughts are just excuses and marketing serving an agenda. Do not fall for it.
He knows exactly why Putin started the military operation in Ukraine : Obama's Ukrainian coup d'etat of 2014 and the genocide of Russian speakers in east Ukraine afterwards. Putin has been shouting to western journalists since 2014 that the actions of western governments in Ukraine will lead to war, but the media has been complicit in hiding this from the public. Add to that all the CIA offices in Ukraine, and it becomes very clear why Pompeo is so adamant to protect the country.
