I remember seeing his video speech after getting her pregnant and how getting married was the "right thing". He was never conservative, very much the feminist, just not as hostile about it as others. Calling him a conservative back then would have been wrong because the Overton Window hadn't shifted far enough. Closest he came to "conservative values" was, again, he pregnancy and speaking against abortion.
