This is good, but the gear shift needs a tank mounted gate - so the loading on the shift mechanism in the gear box, is protected from other loads, that usually have a great deal of leverage behind them.

This is the Harley Davidson WL gear shifting gate and gear shift lever.

It's pretty easy to make a gate for a specific gear shift mechanism.

Actually that is symbolic, you need a central gate, with ramped movements, into the shift action and a straight slide back down into the central gate.

Also the 45's had a foot clutch.... with a camming leverage action to open and lock the clutch open..

There is no overriding slipper acton because that TINY little gear shift shaft into the gear box, has a leverage aspect against it of about 4.5 times... 2Kg to shift gears by foot, and 10 Kg via the hand gear shift... AND that hand gear shit, is on the side of the bike and it's also floating in the open... It's a high risk and high damage kind of a set up. It needs a slipping release so if the energy performing the shift exceeds the input of a foot shift, the mechanism simply declutches the force
