Animals not only suffer from depression, as that condition can even lead them to death.
Had a neighbour who's cat died like that. It wasn't the depression that killed it, was the effects of the depression, mainly not eating.
Dogs go into depression too, when the owner or another pet that was raised with them dies. It is not a pleasant situation to witness.
