Ghana BANS all exports of unrefined gold dore
Ghana is closing the tap on its gold, banning all exports of the unrefined rare mineral. The state's GoldBod announced that local companies will take over all refinement processes by next month.
In recent months, Guinea, Tanzania, Mali and Burkina Faso have all introduced similar measures to boost local revenue.
Ghana is Africa's largest gold producer, and has been steadily increasing government control over the rare mineral.
Last year, Accra founded GoldBod – a state body with the exclusive right to purchase and export artisanal gold. The initiative has boosted official output and reduced foreign currency leakage.
To discuss this, we speak with Prince Kwame Minkah, GoldBod Media Relations Officer.
