Gang opens fire on church-led protesters in Haiti

A gang opened fire on a group of parishioners and their pastor as they marched through a suburb of Haiti’s capital armed with machetes, seeking to rid the area of criminal groups. At least seven people were reportedly killed in the attack.

Gangs have grown more powerful since the July 2021 assassination of President Jovenel Moise, and are estimated to control up to 80% of Port-au-Prince.
