Funeral for Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh held in Tehran

The funeral service for Hamas’ political chief Ismail Haniyeh has been held in the Iranian capital. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was seen praying over Haniyeh’s coffin, accompanied by President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Footage from state TV showed the funeral procession in Tehran, with crowds throwing flowers towards the coffin. Following the service, Haniyeh is due to be returned to Qatar for burial.

Haniyeh was visiting Tehran for the inauguration of President Pezeshkian, and was killed in an airstrike, along with his bodyguard. Iran has blamed Israel for the attack, and has vowed to retaliate.
