France ends anti-insurgency op in Africa but keeps troops in Sahel

France’s years-long anti-insurgency operation in Africa has ended amid widespread opposition to the former colonial power's continued military presence on the continent. However, France will reportedly keep about 3,000 troops in North Africa's Sahel region.
