Yandex is far more than Uber. They have captured the markets Google failed to capture. They have search engines, news aggregator, cloud disk storage (Yadisk - check it out), money transfers, and much more.
Amex and Discover are not very common. But MA/Visa is used almost everywhere. Amex may be possible if you use it in a bank to get cash but otherwise nobody even knows it exists. I have only had luck with Amex in a hotel but it was in one of the richer EU places.
