FBI opens investigation into apparent assassination attempt on Trump

The FBI is investigating an apparent assassination attempt on Donald Trump at a golf club in Florida. The suspect fled the scene, leaving behind an AK-style rifle but was later arrested. The Republican presidential nominee was not injured.

The man identified as the would-be assassin is Ryan Wesley Routh, according to multiple media sources citing law enforcement. Routh is reported to be a staunch supporter of Ukraine and helped recruit former Afghan soldiers to fight there. He also spent several months in Kiev in 2022.
