Over the years I have heard and seen people bristle at any suggestion that human beings might be animals, in no way fundamentally different from other animals. We are indeed different but it is a question of degree not separate categories. Why do they deny this? Therein lies the rub. Why would people deny our nature? To preserve one of the most important features of human psychology: ego.
