DOS-88, comes from the Disk Operating System - comes from the very early Operating Systems that came on 3.5" floppy disks..

Yes I have installed Microsoft DOS ---- wayyyyy back in the day, from Floppy Disks.

The 88 comes from that 3.5" = 88mm (88.9mm actually)

Or it comes from 1988...
