LAT = living apart together, i.e. two abodes, two FIPs (financially independent persons), so if the relationship with the woman fails, the two of you just go back to your own abodes, cost free to the man. You get the best of both worlds, i.e. your own freedom to do what you want when you are alone in your own abode, and the regular sex and companionship with your woman when you are with her, e.g. 3 days a week together, and 4 days a week apart, or something similar.
The weekly separation from her keeps the relationship fresh, and the sex too. It is likely, in the UK at least, that this LATting lifestyle will become the norm, in time.
