That said, our contemporary social norms are what I was specifically remarking on, which have shifted drastically over the past 20 years, but still greatly differ from as much as 40 years ago. Even the last 10 years have seen such a polar shift that people living in the 80s would find our society implausible. Never mind being ungrateful, how about common sense vs social programming? MHD (as well as Better Bachelor and and a few others I've seen) puts it this way: women prefer to date the bad boy because it means they won't have to improve who they are or even be decent people. This is a typically western outlook, many cultures vary tremendously, largely as a result of the laws of that given country. It's funny you mention Mongolia: they recently had problems stemming from providing education programs for their women who then decided they were too good for their uneducated men, resulting in a downward shift in marriage and child birth. They became a great example of my original point, which can be summarized simply as "hypergamy in action".

Perhaps The Mongolians will follow that example? Then again, like S.
