Dating Apps Are Not a Level Playing Field | The 1,650% Tinder Match Gap

This episode is about dating apps — and the 1,650% Tinder match gap recorded between curated female and male profiles in one controlled experiment.

Many women experience an abundance of attention, endless alternatives, and the belief that someone better is always one swipe away. Many men struggle for visibility, receive few matches, face repeated rejection, and feel pressured to pay simply to improve their chances of being seen.

Dating apps promise equal access to connection. Yet men and women may download the same app whilst receiving completely different experiences and outcomes.

I discuss the gendered attention gap, selective swiping, physical preferences, popularity-biased algorithms, the paradox of choice, opportunity cost, rejection mindsets, paid visibility, and why dating apps may benefit when users remain single and swiping.

Women are pushed towards abundance. Men are pushed towards scarcity. The platforms monetise both.
