No clue what the age of the children when the divide occurred or the relationship before hand. Many mothers are fully willing to damage the children with no concern for their best interest to spite the father. You lucked out to take it on the chin other wise you would likely have a dragged out relationship that you would have stayed in, that wasn't positive at all. It might be best to move forward, consider it unfortunate and as you've done make lemonade out of lemons.
