A man from British Columbia narrowly avoided drowning after intentionally driving his car into a fjord to boost someone else’s social media accounts. The man drove his car through Port Moody, through the Rocky Point boat launch and straight into the Burrard Inlet after being paid by infamous livestreamer Adin Ross, while said influencer and his parasocial followers filmed it and put it on the internet to gain, potentially, over three more views.

Driving a car into a fjord does not come without consequence. For starters, the car gets terminally wet [citation needed], and the oil and gas leaking out can potentially cause serious damage to the local ecosystem. Port Moody authorities have attempted to contain the oil leak, but it is unclear how much damage has been caused. The driver of the car was rescued, detained and released, while the police consider charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and criminal mischief. It is unclear what punishment, if any, Ross will face, as he is based in the US, and international laws haven’t yet been invented to tackle such monumental stupidity.
